

Often the lists just comb over the same popular games that most people should know about already and are much listed all over the net, but they still get dugg or fsdaily'ed or whatever-the-latest-craze-site-is'ed.

Not least because I'm fed up of seeing list after list after list of ~7-20 open source games pop up in cheap attempts to get web traffic. It's been a while since I had the lists on the blog, and they will return one day. *grumble grumble*ĭon't bother reading this if you want anything informative. All these games are open source and work on Lin/Win and (mostly) Mac. Now, that's real open source game information.

Last but definitely not least, XreaL is an amazing project modernising the Quake 3 engine to bring it in line with Doom 3 or better. Nothing I can really single out but if you're into your development blogs and what goes on inbetween releases then worth a read. I'm going to definitely check this one out.įIFE, the 2D adventure RPG engine, continues good progress. Paintown is an awesome old school 2D beat-em-up game and version 3.0 brings some really neat features - new characters, network play, AI assisted play, and enemies explode into body parts.

NewCol is, "a game based on a classic map engine displaying forests, rivers, mountains and seas with a textured relief map, gaussian random number generator and z-buffer like algorithm." It's obviously inspired a bit by colonization, but it looks very original in it's design.
